Travelling by Car
Hiring a Car:
If you are considering hiring a car while you are in Ireland you might check out www.rentalcars.com. They give you a comparison of pricing with different companies. If you choose Hertz you can pick up the car at a downtown office within walking distance of Oaklodge and return it to the airport.
May I also suggest you consider hiring a sat nav. I appreciate this is an extra cost but think you may find it money well spent when travelling around Ireland. Otherwise please be sure you have a good up-to-date road map with you.
Driving from Dublin Airport:
Drive towards Dublin City. Follow directions towards N11 until you come to junction J54. Follow the flow of traffic and you will pass the Double Tree Hotel on your left. Take the third left turn after the Burlington Hotel into Wellington Place. Then take the first right turn into Pembroke Park. If you miss the left turn into Wellington Place you can take the next left turn into Herbert Park and the second left into Pembroke Park.
Driving from Dunlaoghaire Ferry:
Drive toward Dublin City. This will bring you to Ballsbridge. You will pass Bewley's Hotel on your left side. Take the second left turn after Bewley's Hotel at Roly's Bistro turning into Herbert Park. Continue down this road and take the second right turn into Pembroke Park.
Driving from Dublin Port:
Coming out from the docks take a left turn onto East Wall Road. Take a right turn at roundabout onto North Wall Quay. Follow the traffic going left over bridge. Take a left then the first right. Take the fourth left turn and drive straight and you will come to the Ballsbridge Hotel formerly known as Jury's Hotel. Turn right at Ballsbridge Hotel. Then take second left into Wellington Road. At the end of this road go straight at the traffic lights and you are in Pembroke Park.
Driving from N7/N9:
Drive south along the canal. Turn right on J53 at Baggot |St bridge. Take second right going up Wellington Road. Cross Junction into Pembroke Park.
Driving from the N11:
Coming towards Dublin on the N11. As you get near Donnybrook you will see a very large pylon in the RTE grounds on the right hand side. After you pass this pylon you will take the next right turn at Donnybrook Church.
This will bring you up along Anglesea Road. When you get to the end of Anglesea Road you will take a left turn and then the next left turn at Roly's Bistro bringing you up Herbert Park. Take second right into Pembroke Park.
Aircoach:
Traveling by Bus / Public Transport From the Airport:
You can take the aircoach from just outside arrivals at Dublin airport and it will drop off at The Hampton Hotel on Morehampton Road. After disembarking walk in the direction the bus is travelling, take a left at the traffic lights onto Herbert Park. Take the second left onto Pembroke Park. Oaklodge is close to the end of the road on the right.
Please ensure to take the aircoach signed for Leopardstown and not the aircoach signed for Ballsbridge. Ask the driver to inform you when he has reached the Hampton Hotel stop (also known as the Royal Hospital stop).
The price is EUR8.00 per person one way and EUR14.00 return. If you buy online a return ticket is EUR13.00, select destination Donnybrook Road. The aircoach runs throughout the night. www.aircoach.ie
NB: Do not take the aircoach for Ballsbridge even if recommended by the operative. They are not familiar with the exact location of Pembroke Park. The directions above will give you the shortest walking distance to Oaklodge.
From the City Centre
BUS: Taking the bus FROM Dublin City Centre to Oaklodge:
The 46A can be taken from O'Connell St, near Clery's store or from Nassau St. outside Trinity College. Ask the bus driver to let you off at the Royal Hospital stop in Donnybrook. After disembarking walk in the direction the bus is travelling, take a left at the traffic lights onto Herbert Park. Take the second left onto Pembroke Park. Oaklodge is close to the end of the road on the right.
TO the City Centre:
BUS: Taking the bus TO Dublin City Centre from Oaklodge:
Turn left at the gate then right at the top of the road and then right at the traffic lights. Cross the street and then take the 46A into town.
From Heuston Railway Station:
Take the 145 bus from Heuston Station. Ask the bus driver to let you off at the Royal Hospital stop in Donnybrook. After disembarking walk in the direction the bus is travelling, take a left at the traffic lights onto Herbert Park. Take the second left onto Pembroke Park. Oaklodge is close to the end of the road on the right.
Walking
From Oaklodge TO Dublin City Centre
Turn right at the gate cross the first junction and walk to the end of Wellington Road. Turn left at the end of Wellington Road and walk straight down Leeson St. At the end of Leeson St. you arrive at St Stephen's Green. Take a leisurly stroll through St Stephen's Green and you will arrive at the main shopping street, Grafton St. It is approximately at 20-25 minute walk.
